Learning to live with losing their best friend.
Who did you lose?
Best friend
How old were they?
42
How long have you been grieving?
9 months
What's your fondest memory of the person you lost?
Rosie will always and forever be known as my bus stop friend. We met at a bus stop in 2007, started chatting and became great friends from that point onwards. We’d commute to London together, enjoy drinks & parties together, and enjoying walk around the river talking about everything and anything.
What emotions did you feel within your first year of grief?
Sadness, for myself and for her family. Shock, it all happened so quickly. Guilt, that I was still alive and she wasn’t. Confusion, how did this happen?? Relief, she was suffering so much at the end, her passing was the best thing for her.
How do you prefer people to comfort/mention it?
I like people to say "I'm sorry for your loss" and then carry on as normal
Have you had any type of therapy for your grief?
No, but I’d like to
Essie’s message to anyone struggling with grief
Be kind to yourself, allow yourself to grieve and don’t be afraid to say how you’re feeling.
